Chennai, Tamil Nadu Rains Live News: Some districts including Chennai are likely to get heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next few days. The MET Department has issued a red alert for Nagapattinam and orange for rest of the coastal districts including Tiruvallur and Chennai for the next two days.

The pattern of cyclonic circulation is persisting at 5.8 km of height and is still close to the coast, moving a slightly in the east-west direction. Due to this, coastal Tamil Nadu will get widespread rainfall, said Puviarasan, Director, MET Department, Chennai.

As a precautionary measure, the state government declared a holiday for government offices, educational institutions including schools and colleges on Friday in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Chengalpet districts.

Chief Minister MK Stalin took stock of the situation. Minister Ramachadran said that a 24×7 control room has been set up and relief centres opened to help the public. The minister asked people to stay indoors and step out only if necessary. For any complaints, he said the public can dial 1070/1077.
