Meanwhile, private weather bloggers say that the next round of rainfall may start from December 18. The skies will remain partly cloudy. Maximum and minimum temperatures will be Hover around 30°C-31°C and 23°C-24°C.
“This is due to the moderate easterlies and northeasterlies over the region in the lower tropospheric levels,” an IMD official said.
A weather blogger said the days are expected to be bright and sunny at least till December 18. “There are chances of early morning mist. Our next spell of rain may begin by December 19 or 20,” he said.
Skymet Weather said the next spell of rain may be due to the low pressure area formed over southeast Bay of Bengal and the adjoining equatorial region.
It added, “Heavy rainfall is likely over Tamil Nadu at a few places, including Chennai and Puducherry on December 18 and 19. After that, till December 23, scattered moderate rain and thunder showers are likely over all the five subdivisions of northeast monsoon and coastal Karnataka.”
