CHENNAI: A doctor who raped a woman colleague at a quarantine facility during Covid-19 pandemic last year was on Friday sentenced to 10-year jail by a mahila court.
According to the prosecution, Dr Vetriselvan, attached to RGGGH, sexually assaulted his colleague at the quarantine facility in T Nagar in 2021. Based on a complaint from the woman, the hospital dean and the internal complaints committee began an inquiry. The Teynampet all-women police who registered an FIR and filed a chargesheet in the mahila court.
On Friday, judge T H Mohammed Farooq passed the order convicting Dr Vetriselvan under IPC section 376 (I). The court imposed a Rs 20,000 as fine to be paid to the survivor and recommended compensation to her under the relevant provisions.
