CHENNAI: In two different cases, a special Pocso Act court here sentenced two men to undergo imprisonment for 20 years for sexual assault on children aged 5 and 7 years. Both the culprits were neighbours of the children.
M Rajalakshmi, sessions judge for exclusive trial of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, cases, pronounced both judgments on January 23.
In the first case, the 29-year-old man lured the 5-year-old at Peravallur in September 2021 and raped her. The child’s mother, who was separated from her husband, found the child crying and lodged a complaint with the all-women police. He was charged with offences punishable under Section 6 of POCSO Act. He has now been given 20-year jail term, along with 15,000 fine.
In the second case, a 27-year-old man lured the 7-year-old with chocolate and raped her on August 23, 2018. The child’s mother lodged a complaint with all-women police, Teynampet. Besides Section 6 of the Pocso Act, the man was charged under Section 366 of IPC for kidnap. The children were both given 5 lakh as compensation along with the fine amount imposed on the convicts.
